Swithland: A charity bridge drive was held in aid of Leicester Life Education Centres at Swithland Memorial Hall on Wednesday, April 8, attended by 64 avid players (16 tables) after a delicious meal (main course provided by David Brown, the chairman of Life Education, and his wife Fiona with assistance from Valerie Capewell, wife of the club secretary, with various sweet dishes cooked by members of the Inner Wheel Club (Rotary's sister organisation) followed by coffee.

After supper the room quietened and the bridge began in earnest.

First prize was won by Mr Robert Rich-Bowles with a score of over 3,000 points, the runner up was Mrs Shirley O'Brien.

The prize for nearest to zero was won by Mrs Valerie Crighton, exactly on zero.

Prizes were also awarded to Mrs Gilly Clear and Mrs Gilly Walton for the first slam bid and made.

Prizes were awarded by the chairman of the charity. A raffle was also held.

The bridge drive eventually ended at 10.30pm and a net profit of £751 was achieved to which was added a further £750 by sponsors Barclays Bank, under their £-for-£ scheme.

Life Education Centres provides a mobile classroom which tours schools giving children the information they need to make healthy lifestyle choices.

The whole evening was organised by Malcolm Dobbs, a retired manager of Barclays Bank.

He thanked the Rotarians who assisted on the evening together with their wives and all the participants who enjoyed the evening.
