The top 10 places to visit in Leicestershire - poll results
Voting has now closed in our poll to find the most popular place for a day out in Leicestershire and Rutland.
A total of 485 votes were cast for the 15 locations nominated by visitors to ThisisLeicestershire.
The poll coincided with British Tourism Week and we can now reveal the top 10 places in to spend a day.
In first place is Bradgate Park which notched up more than a quarter of the votes.
The popular park gained 131 votes and was nominated by Phil Lewin because "...it is beautiful, relaxing, fun for everyone and free! Not only that, but it is home to
some beautiful wildlife and scenery."
Not far behind, in second place, with 21 per cent of the votes, is Great Central Railway.
The next four most popular locations were:
National Space Centre
Thoreau, of Leicester, was keen to remind us that there are plenty of other places to consider too.
"You can try Embrace Arts, formerly
the Richard Attenborough centre, on Lancaster Road. Nice place to stop
for a cup of tea and a cheese on toast for literally pennies.
"Or try he lovely walled garden round the back of Newarke House
Museum, also free - always empty, yet seconds from the shops. Oh yeah -
and the Botanical Gardens themselves are truly amazing and
completely free. Blow the Birmingham ones out of the water - and they
cost an absolute bomb.
And Eileen, of Leicester, wanted to know "why has Gorse Hill farm been left out a donation ensures a lovely family day out."
The aim of British Tourism Week, organised by VisitBritain, is to raise awareness of the importance of Britain's £115 billion visitor economy.
