Being served up at this year's festival in Melton - the Rural Capital of Food and Drink - will be an impressive selection of products to try and to buy from some of the country's finest producers, many from the East Midlands region. There are live demos and activities to join in at the "family food and fun zone". Just head to the town's Cattle Market. When: Saturday 10am to 5pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm. Cost: £6 or £5 for pre-booked tickets and children under 16 go free.

2. FILM: Double Bill Season: Citizen Kane & Vertigo (PG) at Phoenix Square, Leicester.
The top two films of all time (according to Sight & Sound) are being screened this weekend at Phoenix Square. Starting with Orson Welles’ opus chronicling the rise and fall of a publishing tycoon and followed by Vertigo - Hitchcock’s psychological thriller starring James Stewart. When: Sunday at 3.30pm.

3. THEATRE: There's a Monster in My Piano at Curve, Leicester.
An "offbeat jazzy tale" for all the family and starring puppets, clowning, animation and a very highly strung monster. The piano doctor is called when strange noises are heard - but can he sort the problem? The show is a part of Little Curve and will be hosted in Rehearsal Room 2. Puppet theatre for all ages over 4. 4. MUSIC: Glenstock 2012 at the Old Greyhound, London Road, Great Glen.
It's late in the season for music festivals but that's not stopping Glenstock - a music festival and charity fun day raising money for Loros. As well as live bands (See the facebook page for updates on the line-up) there will be stalls, games and activities for all the family plus a BBQ, bouncy castle, children’s corner, raffle and beer.

5. EVENT: Scarecrow Railway Day at Abbey Pumping Station, Corporation Road, Leicester.
All aboard the passenger railway which follows an autumn trail around Abbey Pumping Station museum. Along the route your challenge is to try to spot the scarecrows that are resting after a busy summer guarding the crops. When: Saturday, 11am to 4:30pm.

6. FAMILY: Netherlands National Circus at Victoria Park, London Road, Leicester.
The cast of international artistes which makes up the Netherlands National Circus brings you a mix of acrobatics, comedy, juggling, illusion and aerial feats. When: Thursday, Friday and Saturday. 4.45pm & 7.30pm, mats Oct 6, 2pm, Oct 7, 1pm & 3.30pm. Price: £12- £24, child £10-£18

7. COMEDY: Just the Tonic Comedy Club at Loughborough Town Hall.
Just the Tonic is now opening at Loughborough Town Hall. The monthly comedy club aims to bring to audiences "the best of the established and the up and coming comedians on the circuit". This weekend's acts are Dana Alexander, Tiffany Stevenson and Ola with compere Mike Wilkinson. When: Friday at 9pm.

8. ACTIVITY: Be A Falconer at Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre, in Sutton Cheney.
This one's just for the adults, so if you're a grown-up who wants to get closer to some big birds then this event is for you. The hands-on session will involve handling and flying birds of prey and owls. You will also learn about training birds and there'll be a talk about the historical links. 9. FAMILY: Autumn Steam Gala at Great Central Railway.
A four-day gala at the ever-popular Great Central Way with visiting engines and a busy timetable. There'll be guest engines working the turntable, passenger, freight and postal trains. It's as real as it gets with steam trains departing and passing every few minutes.

10. SPORT: Leicester City v Bristol City at Leicester City Football Club.
We had to make City our sporting choice this week what with four consecutive wins - let's hope the good times continue as Nigel Pearson's men welcome Bristol City to the King Power Stadium. When: Saturday, 3pm.
