Billed as the biggest Diwali celebrations outside of India, the lights switch-on is expected to attract up to 35,000 people. There'll be the switch-on plus fireworks display and live entertainment on stage
The ceremony will begin at 6pm; the lights will be switched on at 7.30pm. Key times are: 11am - Belgrave Flyover closed, 5.30pm - Belgrave Road closed, 6pm - switch-on ceremony and stage programme begins, 7.30pm - lights switched on. Ceremony finishes 8pm and the firework and laser display starts. The display ends at 8.20pm. 9.30pm - Belgrave Road re-opens.
2. MUSIC: Joan Armatrading at De Montfort Hall, Leicester.
Three times Grammy nominated Brit award nominee and Ivor Novella winner singer-songwriter Joan Armatrading is in Leicester as part of her UK tour. The show promises to be a mix of old favourites plus brand new songs. When: Friday at 7:30. Tickets £27.50 £29.50

3. THEATRE: The Peacock Lounge Burlesque at The Y Theatre, East Street, Leicester.
Enjoy an evening which combines the historic traditions of music hall and vaudevillian theatre with a broad range of burlesque styles. The stars mix tradition, variety, elegance and comedy. 4. EVENT: Festival of Remembrance at De Montfort Hall, Leicester.
The Band of the Royal Marines leads the Royal British Legion’s annual Festival of Remembrance for 2012. Join the celebration at De Montfort Hall to not only remember those who have made the supreme sacrifice for their country but also those who are fighting for peace in the world today. 5. EVENT: UK Open 2012 Rubik's Cube-solving championship at the University of Leicester.
Champion cubers from around the world have their sights set on the UK Championships being held in Leicester this weekend. The Rubik's UK Open attracts over 90 competitors from 8 countries, including the UK's No1 Breandan Vallance who can solve the puzzling little cube in 8.13 seconds!
6. SHOPPING: Fair Trade Fayre at Victoria Room, Loughborough Town Hall.
If you’re into planning ahead then this could be the place to make a start on the Christmas shopping. There, we’ve done it, our first mention of the “Ch” word! There will be a range of Fair Trade homewares, fashion, jewellery and crafts. Pick up gifts for the special person/ people in your life or just a treat for yourself! When: Saturday, 10am to 5pm.
7. THEATRE: One Man, Two Guvnors at Curve theatre, Leicester.
The National Theatre's hit comedy is now a West End and Broadway sensation. It’s a celebration of British comedy with a mix of satire, songs, slapstick and glittering one-liners. Fired from his skiffle band, Francis Henshall becomes minder to Roscoe Crabbe... but Roscoe is really Rachel, posing as her own dead brother.... who's been killed by her boyfriend Stanley Stubbers. Francis spots the chance of an extra meal ticket and takes a job with one Stanley Stubbers. To prevent discovery Francis must keep his two guvnors apart. Leicester’s well-established comedy venue welcomes three talented mischief-makers plus a guest. 9. CHILDREN: Diwali crafts at Abbey Pumping Station, Leicester.
Get into the Diwali mood before the lights switch-on with this crafts and activities event. Visitors can print a Diwali card, make a special Diwali box, and decorate Rangoli patterns and learn about how people use them to welcome prosperity into their homes. There will also be Mehndi style face and hand painting and a Diwali diva trail around the museum. There’s also a chance to contrast this with a trip on the museum's narrow gauge railway. When: Saturday from 11am to 4.30pm. Admission is free with a small charge for train rides. Refreshments will be available.

10. OUTDOOR: Guided Walk at Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre.
Wrap up warm, get your wellies on and join the 1.25 mile guided walk exploring the Battle of Bosworth. the death of King Richard lll and the unlikely victory of Henry Tudor. When: Sunday 11am to 2pm. Adults £4 and family tickets also available
