A petition has been launched opposing plans to build homes on the edge of a village.

Developers Miller Homes Ltd and CWC Developments want to put 975 properties on a 190-acre farmland site off Park Lane, in Castle Donington.

The firms have lodged plans with North West Leicestershire District Council.

Villagers are concerned the proposals will lead to traffic problems, put strain on schools and swallow up open land.

They have started the online Don't Destroy Our Donington petition, which they plan to present to the council. The developers say they would build a relief road.

Some 40 people have signed the petition.
