David McCorquodale, corporate finance partner at KPMG, who led the sale process, said: "Unfortunately, the level of cash and further operational restructuring required to rescue a more substantial part of the business was too much risk for most interested parties."
Sarah Harrison, city centre director, said: "We are really sad whenever any business is going, especially when it comes to job losses.
"We have had a surge of openings in the city centre recently and are looking forward to the Silver Arcade opening soon so hopefully JJB staff will be able to find jobs elsewhere in the city because of the opportunities that are being created."

“Did I hear correctly that the Con man Cameron will fight the next election on the battle cry:
Recession, recession, recession!”

“llamalamb.. the Olympic miracle should have delivered a lot of things, but it hasn't, and never will. Unfortunately JJB is a result of the directors taking their eye off the ball. Retail industry has evolved beyond all recognition and their overpriced store was doomed without modern leadership. Change with the times or go to the wall.”

“So much for Cameron's promises that the private sector would provide jobs for all under his regime. The private sector is going down the pan thanks to his and Osborne's financial mismanagement. The Olympic miracle should have increased sportswear sales or am I missing something.”
