A donation of £500 is being given towards repairs to the 300-year-old building which houses Hinckley and District Museum.

The money has been awarded by the Heart of England Co-operative Society from its Helping Hearts charity, which is funded with profits from tobacco sales and used to support charities in the areas where it has shops.

The museum, which is housed in former framework knitters' cottages, in Lower Bond Street, Hinckley, has had £20,000 of repairs to stabilise the gable end and rebuild an internal chimney after suffering from wood rot.

The money was loaned to the not-for-profit museum company by Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, which owns the building.

The museum is open on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
