Scores of people aged 50 and over took part in a day of fitness aimed at boosting their health.

More than 250 people visited the Greentowers youth centre, in Tudor Road, Hinckley, to give a variety of activities, such as climbing and Zumba, a go.

The participants included 80-year-old Brenda Greasley.

She said: "It's nice to be outside and lovely to be with all these people.

"They are all different age groups – I don't like being with old biddies like myself!"

The event was organised by the Hinckley and Bosworth Older Voices Partnership.

Entertainment included performances by the U3A choir, handbell ringers and a flower arranging expert.

Expert advice was also available on topics such as alcohol abuse, stopping smoking, preventing crime, home composting, computer use and transport for people unable to use buses or trains.

Chair of the Hinckley and Bosworth Older Voices Partnership Kate Webb said using Greentowers as the new venue had proved highly popular and hoped to repeat the event next year.

She said: "Even though it is an out-of-town venue it has been a wonderful place to hold it, particularly because it has all the outside space.

"People have been able to have their lunch on the balcony and enjoy a host of activities. It has given people the chance to do things they could never do elsewhere."
