Act is working
So the hunting season has started, according to Tim Bonner of the Countryside Alliance (Mailbox, November 2) – I thought that hunting had been banned.
If only three prosecutions have been successful, with many meetings having taken place, does that not indicate the majority are conducted according to the law.
Therefore why repeal an Act which has achieved the intention of Parliament.
If hounds were not present the day would become a ride, which is a reason for bridleways being designated as horse-friendly. Having been a walker for over 40 years I have never met a policeman carrying out surveillance of legitimate riders on a bridleway. Whether used as individual or organised group rides they give horse and rider exercise.
I agree that the police should not have to spend thousands of hours investigating spurious allegations.
Take away the need to monitor hunts for law-breaking and the League Against Cruel Sports would have no reason to object.
In this present financial climate, money would be much better used.
