Alert after man jumps into canal in Eastern Boulevard, Leicester

Police were called to a canal yesterday morning after a member of the public reported a man had jumped in.

However, by the time officers arrived in Eastern Boulevard, in the city, the man had got out and run off.

A police spokeswoman said: "At 8.23am we received a call from a member of the public who said a man had jumped into the canal.

"After speaking to security staff at nearby De Montfort University, it appears the man jumped in, then got out and ran off.
