Alliance League football: Miller's hat-trick leads way as Hoskins land upset
FC Hoskins Reserves caused a major upset in the EW Foster Cup by knocking out Division Three high-flyers Reem Team.
The Division Four side triumphed 5-3 after extra-time in the second-round tie with Nick Miller hitting a hat-trick.
Jamie Lewis claimed the other two while Ryan Snodin, Luke Batson and Ian Foreman netted for Reem Team.
There was another surprise when Division Four NRI Reserves got the better of Saffron Lounge Bar, from a level higher. Kieron Thomson blasted four goals in the 5-4 success with Callum Dacey adding the other. Ash James, Ryan Rowley, Ben Bingham and Ryan Allen were on target for Saffron.
Leicester Foxes OB roared past Epworth Forest OB 5-2 through Jake Wain (2), Sam Craig (2) and Ryan Charles.
Out-of-form North Kilworth suffered another setback as Desford United beat them for the second time this season.
Sam Spence, Kieron Hewitt and Carl Baker notched for Desford United in the 3-1 win with Luke Wedgebury netting for North Kilworth. MDH Knights booked their place in the last eight with an emphatic 11-0 victory over Birstall Rangers.
David Brennan scored four times with Lee Stevens (2), Simeon Thomas (2), Tom Dunne, Simon Barby and an own goal completing tally.
Needing a win to get through in Group A of the Arthur Moore Cup, FC Hoskins blew their chance to reach the quarter-finals when they suffered a 5-4 home defeat to Niffy Rangers.
Rory Cuthbert scored a hat-trick with Tom Payne and Matt Tebbutt also on the scoresheet. For Hoskins, Kai Smith hit a treble with Neil Sills also on the mark.
That result means that it is Kirby Muxloe Rangers who qualify as runners-up and face Premier Sports Travel in the last eight.
The other game in Group A was a dead rubber between already-qualified toppers Magna 73 Rangers and already-out Sparta Moshdock.
Even though there was nothing riding on the game it was very competitive and played in the right spirit at Horsewell Lane.
Sparta Moshdock prevailed 4-2. Mark Preston put Sparta into the lead and Aaron Preston doubled the advantage with a fine finish. But Danny Baines produced a stunning goal on the half-volley to pull one back before Tom Cartwright levelled for Magna.
Moshdock eventually proved too strong for a depleted Magna side with Josh Richards and Mark Preston, adding his second, to win the match.
GT secured their first win in four games and went second in Group C after a 5-1 win against Horse. Ben Law (2), Adam Stacey, Jimmy Latham and Richard Saunders struck for GT with Mike Tuxford on the mark for Foster.
