Andy King gets green light to play on for Leicester City
Andy King has been cleared to continue playing after X-rays revealed he had not broken his wrist.
The midfielder was taken off at the end of the first half of the 2-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
It was feared he had suffered a fracture after falling awkwardly in the centre circle.
However, after X-rays and being examined by a consultant, City have been given the green light to allow King to continue training.
The 21-year-old will now be allowed to link up with the Wales squad in preparation for this Saturday's international friendly with Scotland at the Cardiff City Stadium, but will not feature unless his wrist is 100-per-cent.
"The consultant has cleared the wrist of any fracture but has recommended that Andy receives treatment and wears a brace during exercise for the next few weeks," said head physiotherapist Dave Rennie.
"Andy will be reporting for international duty with Wales as planned, but will not be risked unless fully fit."
The news will be a massive boost to manager Nigel Pearson and City.
King's departure came just minutes after captain Matt Oakley limped out of action with a groin strain and there were fears Pearson would have to patch up the centre of his midfield for the visit of Plymouth Argyle in two weeks time. Even if he recovers, Oakley is suspended for the visit of the Pilgrims after picking up his fifth booking against Albion, but Pearson has plenty of options available.
The loss of King as well would have left Pearson with the more difficult decision of who would partner Richie Wellens in his midfield engine room.
One option would have been Bruno Berner, who stepped out of defence after the departures of Oakley and King against Albion, and the Swiss international said he would be ready if King did not fully recover.
"I don't know yet if I am going to play or where I am going to play," said Berner.
"We have a lot of quality players who can play there as well, but when the gaffer signed me he knew I was a versatile player and two thirds of the games last season I played in centre midfield, so if I have to play there I will do my best.
"Kingy has done very well. He wasn't in the starting line-up at the start of the season. He has taken his chance.
"He is very mature for a young player. He has come through the academy, he loves the club and he wants to put in his best performance every single game."
On-loan defender Ryan McGivern has been called up by Northern Ireland Under-21s for their European Championship qualifiers.

“Tribute to NP indeed, we have continued our great run of form from last season and I'm ecstatic with that. However, these high expectations were (as usual) borne out at the start of the season, "we've won one league, let's go and win another!" etc. I'm all for optimism but fans do get negative if they don't see these expectations quickly adhered to (booing the team off for example). I'd much rather keep a level head and allow the team room for mistakes without so much pressure. I think NP is the perfect man for this job and really hopes he can put them all straight over the international break.”

“Blue Jonesy, after attending the Walkers on Saturday, I think outclassed is a bit strong. I thought we had the upper hand up until the two injuries & suddenly found ourselves 0-2 down, underservedly.
I agree with your remarks about expectations, but would venture this is a tribute to what NP has done in the last two seasons, to be even talking in such terms.
West Brom are a class side, who will be there or therabouts come May. A play-off berth would be a fantastic achievement for the City & I expect that Mr. Mandaric will be brandishing the cheque book come May, to push home the potential that is currently being displayed at the Walkers.”

“Back to the article...'midfield engine room'???! On Saturday it looked like a black hole in the centre of the pitch. The injuries made a big difference but not because either were playing particularly well. I was (and still am) very positive about the team this season but we have to put our hands up and say we WERE outclassed by WBA. That's not being negative, I think it brought a lot of people back down to earth with a bump. We've had a good start to the season but let's not ideas above our station. Everyone's getting too carried away talking about promotion and the like. One step at a time. A top 10 finish would be a remarkable feat this season.”
