Andy King says it's time for Leicester City to press play-off claims
Leicester City will be looking to continue their excellent start to the year against Millwall today at the Walkers Stadium, and skipper Andy King believes it is vital that they build some momentum towards the play-offs.
City are unbeaten in the Championship since New Year's Day and King said they must build an unbeaten run to push them into the promotion frame in the second half of the season.
Sven-Goran Eriksson's men have won two and drawn one of their three league games, and are unbeaten in their last nine Championship games at the Walkers Stadium.
King said that form had to continue if City were to emerge as genuine contenders, and they will be desperate to win, having lost 2-0 at The Den in December.
"Since the turn of the year, we have strung a couple of results together and are building some momentum," he said.
"It was disappointing to concede that late goal at Preston last week.
"That would have made it a dream start for us but seven points from nine is the sort of form we need to be producing regularly between now and the end of the season.
"We have had two good cup games and, although we are disappointed we lost at Manchester City on Tuesday, we can take a lot of positives from the game, and use that to improve for the rest of the season."
King said they would pay no attention to talk of Millwall's injury woes and warned the wounded Lions could still pose a threat. "We don't really listen to the talk about injuries, we just focus on ourselves," he said.
"Whatever team they put out is the team we have to beat, so we focus on that and on ourselves, our own preparations. We need to play our own game.
"They are a strong side with good players and they are doing well in the league, but we know we have good players and are confident, especially at home. If we play as we know we can, we can beat anyone at the Walkers."
Millwall boss Kenny Jackett has recruited Darren Purse following his release by Sheffield Wednesday and signed Norwich's Jens Berthel Askou to plug the gaps left by a raft of injuries to defenders. Centre-backs Darren Ward and Tony Craig picked up injuries in the 2-1 victory at Ipswich last Saturday.
First-choice pairing Danny Shittu and captain Paul Robinson are already sidelined with hamstring problems and a fifth defender, Tamika Mkand-awire, is also unlikely to feature.
