Angling: Big pike puts Andy Pollard in second
Melton's Andy Pollard was among the front-runners in the inaugural predator open at Celtic Lakes, Frisby-on-the-Wreake.
Pollard won the biggest-fish section when he caught a 6lb pike during the six-hour lure-fishing marathon.
Overall, Pollard was runner-up to Lincolnshire's Pavel Gawrys, who caught a total of 15lb 11oz.
Gawrys began with a 5-3 pike and followed up with two more scaling 4-11 and 5-13. But he had some nervous moments before claiming victory because several anglers were unable to hold on to big fish, including Leicester's Mick Fradsham, who lost an estimated 20lb-plus pike just as he was about to net it.
Dayle Taylor won Wreake AC's silver-fish match on their lake at Newton Harcourt with a 10lb roach catch. Keith Thompson was runner-up on 6-4 ahead of Malc Mott, 4-4, and Norman Bradshaw, 4-2.
Ade Hull set the pace on 16-2 from peg 15 in Ratby AC's contest at Dog Lane Fishery, near Southam.
Geoff Winder was runner-up on 5-7 and Keith Bonser third on 2-10.
Leicestershire anglers took the first three places in a midweek open on the river pool at Lakeview Fishery, Holwell.
Dean Clare won on 68-0 from Steve Haywood, 54-0 and Andy Searle, 44-0.
Haywood was also runner-up in Sunday's open on the serpent and marina pools. He caught 37-5 from peg 25 on marina but Nottinghamshire's Shaun Huggins won with 52-8 from peg 10 on serpent.
County angler Bob Murray was third in Saturday's contest on the serpent pool on 23-8. Nottinghamshire's Gary Cox won with 38-8.
