Man-of-the-moment Roger Marlow, of Leicester Sensas, has achieved something that no other angler has ever done.

Marlow has won the Soar Championship for the third time in a row.

This year's triumph was his fourth title in total, after he won the championship once before his 2010 and 2011 triumphs.

Marlow did not have it all his own way this year as the river and the conditions were far from good, with all 65 anglers struggling for bites. In the end, it was very close as only a few anglers broke the 2kg-mark.

The turning point for Marlow came late as he fished a stick float down the edge and caught a big perch of about 2lbs in weight, along with two or three slightly smaller ones. He ended the match with 2kg 550g.

Tony Marshall (Quorn AS) fished a good match for a total of 2-400.

Third was Alan Wright (Long Eaton), 2-300, and fourth was Leicester Sensas youngster Harry Wilkinson.

Result: 1 Roger Marlow 2-550, 2 Tony Marshell 2-400, 3 Alan Wright 2-300, 4 Harry Wilkinson 2-250, 5 Ben Sharratt 2-050.

The third round of the Soar Valley Winter League takes place on Sunday.

In-form Dave McDowell continued his recent successes with a fine win at the Kobra Open on lake two at Makins.

Fishing peg A14, the Coventry angler found fish right from the start on ledgered pellet, and ended with 20 carp for a total of 84lb 10oz.

Heavy overnight rain increased water levels and reduced sport, although the Kobra Open on snake and reptile at Makins still produced several decent weights.

Chris Harrison (Baileys of Warwick) on snake peg 15 was a clear winner with 64-04 of carp, fishing long pole and pellet.

Wreake fished their match on the canal at Debdale Wharf when Brian Hoyle came out top with 7-04.

He was followed by Norman Bradshaw (Browning MG) 5-02, with a tie for third between Martin Badrick and Ted Garrard on 4-15.

The Wreake Canal Championship for the Market Harborough area is on Sunday, November 11. Contact Bobby on 0774 6171667 for details.

The Knighton AC event on Willow Lake, Shearsby Valley, was won by Russell Taylor with 51-08.

Pete Wootton was second with 36-13, and Lee Cadenhead was third on 33-05.

Roger Holmes (LVS Notts) with 79-05 won the event on the canal pool.

Second was Chris Shore (LVS Leics), 64-05, and third Roy Toulson ( LVS Notts), 46-15.

In an open event on the marina and canal pools, Neil Barlow (LVS Lincs) was the winner with 83-05 ahead of Steve Bentley(LVS Loughborough), 74-08, and Steve Draper (LVS Notts), 73-14.
