Angling: Wells lands open with prize haul
Aaron Wells has been in fine form despite the wintry weather.
He won a Leicester Sensas open with a catch of 13lb 14oz of prime winter roach.
Joff Woodgett was runner-up on 11-4 ahead of Gary Smith, 6-12, and Tony Marshall, 6-10.
Wells was also runner-up in the individual section in the third round of the Burton League.
He caught 7-4 on the Trent & Mersey Canal at Burton and was beaten only by Sean Ashby (Burton Angling Supplies), 8-12, with Lee Morley (Leicester Sensas A) third on 5-8.
The Leicester A line-up of Rob Jones, Morley, Pete Marlow and John Shellard were runners-up to Burton Angling Supplies.
Sensas B head the table on 54 points from Four Artists, 56, and Shakespeare Superteam, 75.
Quorn Angling Society's A squad were the top team on points in their club's teams-of-four contest on the River Soar between Kegworth and Barrow. They share the lead in the series with Wigston Dream Boys.
The Wigston line-up were the top team on weights and top the series in this category.
Kevin Hales (Long Eaton Federation) was the leading individual in the latest match with a 13-1 catch that included perch to 2lb.
Tom Pringle (Wigston Dream Boys) was runner-up on 13-0 and Pete Jayes (Wigston Blue) third on 10-10.
The cold spell restricted angling at Celtic Lakes, Frisby, but Leicester's Sean Massey caught five pike to 14lb and a perch of just over 2lb.
