Campaigners opposing plans for 3,000 homes at the edge of a town are holding a public meeting.

The South West Action Group (Swag) is against a developer's scheme to build an estate between Shelthorpe and the Outwoods beauty spot.

Fox Strategic Land and Planning wants Charnwood Borough Council to allow changes in the area – but the protesters say this would swallow up picturesque countryside.

The public meeting will be at Holywell Primary School, Berkeley Road, Loughborough, at 7.30pm on Thursday.

Swag chairman Ron Lockwood said: "It's an opportunity to fully explain the proposal – and tell people what they can to do try to prevent it."
