Arcade looks like pastiche of Highcross
The owners of the Silver Arcade have been allowed to restore the building in much the fashion of Cecilia Gimenez's work in Borja, Spain.
The small, tightly-packed shops and narrow staircases were part of the Silver Arcade's charm. From the published pictures, the building appears to be a miniature pastiche of the Highcross.
Where are the old shop fronts and staircases?

But Leicester, typically, has allowed it to be wrecked.

“`Wrecked' is a bit of an exaggeration.
I'm not familiar with either Cecilia Gimenez or her work but I think it's worth remembering that the aim of the SIlver Arcade project wasn't to exactly recreate Amos Hall's original building and thereby provide Leicester with a Victorian shopping museum.
The challenge for the developer, English Heritage (the government agency that oversees work to listed properties) and the City Council's conservation officers was to agree on a restoration that would bring this wonderful structure back into use while safeguarding its essential character, design integrity and materials.
From what I can see, they have succeeded - although we'll have to wait for the official unveiling to make a final judgement.”
