Archery: McPherson earns a call to the British squad
Bowmen of Birstall archer Lauren McPherson has been selected to represent Great Britain at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival in Sydney next month.
McPherson is one of six archery cadets chosen for the event which showcases young athletes aged from 13 to 19 in a variety of sports.
The British team is 100-strong and is made up of competitors from canoeing, diving, equestrianism, fencing, gymnastics, rowing, shooting, triathlon and beach volleyball.
The Birstall youngster had her first taste of international action in October when she was a member of the GB cadet team which competed at the Junior World championships in Antalya, Turkey.
She shot in the women's recurve team, while Bowmen of Rutland's James Mortlock was a member of the junior men's recurve squad.
Both qualified for the head-to-head rounds, Mortlock finishing with a rank of 32 and top Briton. McPherson was ranked 63rd after losing to Russia's Tatiana Segina, who went on to take gold.
Young county archers returned from the indoor National Junior championships with a healthy haul of medals.
Welland Valley's Rebecca Lantsbury scored 555 points to take second place in the under-18 girls section.
Gary McDonald was third in the longbow with 218, while Bowmen of Rutland club-mate Kirsty Davies was fourth in the girls compound on 557.
In the under-16 section, Alexandria Davies matched her sister, Kirsty, with fourth place in the compound after scoring 542 points.
Bowmen of Birstall's James Passingham earned a bronze medal when he was third in the under-12 boys compound competition in which he totalled 518.
Foxes AC's Lisa Crumpling was a winner at the East Midlands indoor championship in Nottingham.
She scored 534 points to capture the women's recurve crown.
Bowmen of Birstall's Rikki Bingham scored 562 to claim runner-up in the compound section. James Bingham went one better than his wife, winning the men's compound crown after scoring 579. Hall Lane's James Young was third in the men's recurve with 539.
Rikki and James Bingham teamed up with Rikki's sister, Christie Westman, to take the team compound prize.
Among the juniors, Welland Valley's Rebecca Lantsbury was the leading female recurve archer with 545. James Passingham (Birstall) was third in the men's compound after posting 399.
