Armed police with dogs arrested two people after raiding a house.

Neighbours in Impey Close, in Thorpe Astley, said at least eight officers with guns forced their way into the house.

A middle-aged couple were arrested. Police said they were later released.

A riot van, five police cars and two police dog units were present at the raid, just before 1pm yesterday.

Emma Ingamells, 25, said armed police were pointing their weapons at an upstairs window as they tried to get the occupants out of the house.

She said: "Some officers in riot gear rammed the front gates.

"They all had shields and the ones with guns were pointing them at the house.

"Eventually a woman in a dressing gown and a man came out and they were taken away in separate police cars. It was really dramatic."

A spokeswoman for Hertfordshire police said: "Officers from Leicestershire attended an address in Thorpe Astley yesterday as part of an arrest inquiry conducted on behalf of Hertfordshire Constabulary."
