Arrests after suspected burglars are shot in Melton Mowbray
Police were called to an isolated house on the edge of Melton Mowbray at 12.26am this morning following reports of a break in and shooting.
The house - situated near St Bartholomew's Church, Welby and the entrance to Asfordby Business Park - has been the scene of intensive Police activity throughout the day.
The caller reported that a group of men had broken into his home and that during the course of the incident, he had fired a legally held shot gun in their direction and they had left the scene.
Around 5 minutes later the Ambulance service called Police to say they were treating a man with injuries consistent with shotgun injuries.

A second man later presented at Leicester Royal Infirmary with similar injuries. Neither are believed to be life threatening.
A police spokeperson said: "Investigations have begun into both reports and five people, four men and one woman have been arrested. A man and 42 year-old woman were arrested in Melton Mowbray on suspicion of GBH and three men aged 27, 23, and 31 were arrested at Leicester Royal Infirmary on suspicion of aggravated burglary.
Enquiries are ongoing and there is very little else we can add at this time."
