A roadside speed camera has been damaged in an arson attack.

A plant pot filled with a flammable liquid was placed on the camera, in King Richards Road, Leicester, and set alight.

The time and date of the incident is not known and only came to light when engineers carried out a routine weekly inspection on Monday.

The camera, which has been removed to be assessed for damage, is operated by the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Safety Camera Partnership. Spokesman Jonathan Clarkson said: "Thankfully, this mindless action is a relatively rare incident."
