Asian film: Hot stars together for D'Silva debut
Naked torsos adorn the publicity posters of Kurbaan, so it was no surprise that it picked up an adult-only certificate in India – though this is largely attributed to the violent theme of the movie, writes Badri Ahmed.
This Karan Johar film brings together two of Bollywood's hottest stars, Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan, for the first time in an explosive tale of love and betrayal set against a theme of terrorism.

Kurbaan stars Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor
Kareena returns from the US to attend to her ailing father and falls in love with Saif, an academic.
When she is required to return to the US, Saif accompanies her and the couple settle in an Indian neighbourhood. They befriend the neighbours and all seems well – until Kareena discovers a disturbing truth that alters her whole life.
The film looks at the abuse of religion and relationships in the pursuit of political goals. The movie has run into the problems with the makers of New York – which had a similar theme – but it is the adult certificate that is likely to prove a setback to this otherwise eagerly-awaited picture.
It features over 2,000 costume changes for its protagonists, who include Dia Mirza, Vivek Oberoi and Om Puri.
Rensil D'Silva makes his directorial debut. The film has been shot in Brooklyn, Philadelphia and Delhi.
Shaabash You Can Do It is the other film out – Sjankar Mondal's relatively low-budget fare stars Hitesh Agrawal and Mansi Dovhal, the former using yoga to raise his chances in a dance competition.
Also due out by the end of the month is De Dana Dan with Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif and Suniel Shetty, while Gracy Singh stars in Aseema Beyond Boundaries.
