Athletics: Appeal for Leicester Marathon marshalls
The organisers of the Leicester Marathon are hopeful of having enough marshalls for the event following an appeal.
They need more than 350 marshalls for the marathon, which takes place on Sunday October 9, but had only 140 yesterday.
Race director Christian Weikert-Picker said that was because people from running clubs who used to volunteer now want to take part.
Following the appeal, the organisers were promised volunteers by Action Homeless, a Leicester-based charity, and the Army Cadets.
Weikert-Picker said he was hopeful of getting up to 350. "It's always touch and go but I think we will get there," he said.
Weikert-Picker also revealed that the number of entries is down, 1,800 compared to 2,000 at the same stage last year. The target is 3,400.
"Our numbers are slightly down and I am wondering whether it's because Birmingham clashes with us."
