There was frustration at Sheffield for Leicester's Laura Samuel who had to drop out of the triple jump with a back injury.

Samuel jumped twice but her best leap of 12.88m was still good enough for fifth and she said she withdrew as a precaution. She added: "I'm pretty disappointed.

"I know I can run faster on the run-up but I'm just having a bit of trouble. I have got a bit of a back problem and it was hurting – that's why I pulled out. I'm not sure what it is, I had a massage on it and hopefully I will find out this week.

"It's just recently started hurting. It's nothing major, I just didn't want to risk it in this competition."
