Leicester's Emma Achurch and Maks Orzel both claimed victories in the opening Midlands' Winter Walking League at Nuneaton.

Achurch was out in front in the under-15 girls event, covering the 3k course in 17min 02sec while Orzel triumphed in the under-17 men's 5k in 27.05. Jasmine Nicholls was second in the under-17 5k event in 29.34.

In the senior men's 5k event, Colin Vesty was 10th in 30.40 with Hardeep Minhas finishing in 31.49 and Sarah Lightman sixth in the women's event in 33.23 as Leicester finished fourth in the team event.

Leicester-based Tom Taylor, who walks for Birchfield, took the 10k crown in 46.35. Leicester finished second team.

Leicester's Fiona McGorum competed in the Cardiff half-marathon and was the first walker home in 1.58.52.
