An 18-year-old youth died when his car hit a tree between Kirby Bellars and Asfordby, near Melton.

Robert David Hayes, of Melton, was driving a blue Ford Focus, when the accident happened in Station Lane, at about 6.52pm on New Year's Eve.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened in the parish of Frisby and Kirby Bellars.

PC Gary Mundy, who is investigating the incident, said: "The vehicle was travelling along Station Lane towards the A607 when it was in collision with a tree.

"We would urge anyone who witnessed the incident or saw the vehicle prior to the collision to please get in touch."
