Leicester University went close to an upset win over high-riding Loughborough Leys in men's Division Two of the Leicestershire League.

A superb maximum from the University's Andrew Peden and Chris Tustian pushed the Leys squad all the way.

But Leys eventually landed a 6-3 victory.

Regal Arts seconds netted a 6-3 win over Leys seconds in a key battle towards the foot of the table.

The 3A title looks to be a fight between Melton and South's seconds with the two sides meeting towards the end of the season.

Ashby continued their fine season in 3B with an 8-1 victory against Olympic.

In the women's section, South Leicestershire missed a chance to close on Division One leaders Loughborough Students when a maximum from Lucie Allen and Amie Hoult helped Leys beat them 5-4.

Only an unlikely set of results can prevent Longslade winning Division Two.

Longslade seconds remain unbeaten in Division Three although Central ran them close before losing 5-4.

Loughborough Students are one win away from claiming the Division One mixed crown.

Countesthorpe are on the brink of the 4A title and Hermitage Lakeside went top of 4B after beating Central's third team 6-3.

Loughborough Leys seconds are almost home and dry in Division Two of the New Hall section after beating nearest rivals Enderby 12-6.
