Baseball: Leicester Blue Sox aim for Midlands Division title
Leicester Blue Sox aim to win the British Baseball Federation's Midlands Division title for the first time tomorrow.
They take on their closest rivals, Birmingham Maple Leafs, in a crucial clash at Western Park.
Last year Leicester finished fourth in the division.
They progressed to the A division play-offs as a wildcard team and ultimately triumphed at the national championships in Croydon, beating Essex Archers to take the A Division crown.
So far this season, Blue Sox and Birmingham have both won 14 matches and lost four. Blue Sox have the edge in their head-to-head battles so a share of the spoils tomorrow will give them the crown.
Whatever the result, both teams will progress to the playoffs, but the champions will have home advantage in the next two rounds against Northern League opposition.
The action gets under way at midday and the Blue Sox are hoping for a good support.
Admission is free but intending spectators are recommended to take their own seating.
The Blue Sox were established in 2006 and, after initially being based in Mountsorrel, they moved to their current Western Park base in 2008.
They have planning permission to upgrade their existing facilities and have a roster of about 40 players.
They are the largest baseball club in the Midlands.
