Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders maintained their grip on fourth place in the BBL Championship with a 93-60 thrashing of London Capital on Saturday night.

Riders led from start to finish and their 17th league win of the season was among their easiest.

It was also the sixth consecutive victory at John Sandford Sports Centre, Riders' best home run since the 2000-01 season.

At the mid-point of January, Riders had won only half of their 16 league games and were eighth, looking over their shoulder worrying about play-off qualification.

Two months on and nine wins from 12 games later, they are in the box seat for a home play-off with a third-placed finish still a distinct possibility.

From the moment Bradd Wierzbicki scored five points as Riders led 7-0, the result was never in doubt. London, who suffered a BBL record 72-point defeat on their last visit to Leicester, offered more resistance this time around.

It was not until the second quarter that Riders' lead moved into double figures as Tony Windless and Duane James combined for 10 of 12 unanswered points around the first break to make it 28-13.

Still 15 ahead at half-time, Riders made a sluggish start to the third quarter and, when player-coach Milek Jivens swished home his second three-pointer in as many minutes, he was punching the air and rousing his team.

At that point it was 48-44, but Riders moved up a gear.

Jason Johnson, LaTaryl Williams and Wierzbicki did the damage in a 17-3 run which ended any Capital hopes of a fightback.

Riders rattled in another 10 points without reply to lead 75-51 early in the final quarter and, when they posted a further 14 unanswered points, the gulf in class between the sides was mirrored on the scoreboard.

Riders: Wierzbicki 25, Johnson 23, James 13, Williams 10, Durant 6, I Westbrooks 6, Windless 6, A Westbrooks 2, Lamble 2.

Capital: Jordan 16, Jivens 14, Gariba 14, Janusauskas 13, Offiah 2, Mills 1, Chute, Lutaaya, Konare.
