Basketball stars boost Special Olympics
Leicester plays host to a series of charity basketball games this weekend in support of the Special Olympics.
The matches are being put together by KB in the Community, Leicester Warriors Basketball Club and England under-16s who are all working in partnership with Leicester City Council.
The event at Braunstone Leisure Centre will feature 360 minutes of top-quality basketball involving England's under-16 men and women, Israel under-16 women, Scotland and Holland's under-16 men and Leicester Cobras wheelchair club.
England under-16s take on their Dutch counterparts this afternoon (5.0 with an All-Star game this evening (7.30).
The All-Star match will feature former Leicester Riders star Karl Brown, who is now assistant coach with England under-16s.
Lining up alongside him will be the first British player to play in the NBA, Steve Bucknall, former England ace Peter Scantlebury. current Riders coach Rob Paternostro and Leicester favourites Barry Lamble and Lataryl Williams.
Special Olympics Games director Steve Humphries said: "I'm delighted that the basketball family and some of the most famous local and national figures within the game will be turning out in force to support the Special Olympics.
"I also hope the public turn out to see the basketball stars of the future."
