New signing Ben Marshall could be Leicester City's surprise package, manager Nigel Pearson believes.

The 20-year-old winger joined on deadline day in a £1 million move from Stoke City and could make his debut today at Brighton and Hove Albion.

Marshall spent nearly three years at the Potters without making a first-team appearance, but enjoyed two successful loan spells at Carlisle United and sprung to prominence on loan at Sheffield Wednesday earlier this season, where he scored five times in 22 appearances.

Pearson said Marshall was now hungry to get his career up and running.

"He is a player who has had limited opportunities at his former club," he said.

"He has had a very successful loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday and I think he will be a very exciting prospect for us.

"He can play on either flank, and his quality of delivery is very good as well. It is good to get him and he may surprise a few people.

"You don't just pick players out of thin air, you monitor them over a period of time.

"He is a player who is very hungry for success. He wants to get his own career moving and I think he sees this as a very positive move for him. It is for us in terms of giving us more options in wide positions.

"He is a very good addition to the squad."

Marshall is one of four new signings vying to make their first starts for City today – midfielder Danny Drinkwater, defender Wes Morgan and striker Nathan Delfouneso.

Pearson expects all four will make a positive impact at the club.

"I am pleased with the permanent signings, and to get Nathan in on loan gives us added scope in other areas," he said.

"Wes has been very consistent at this level and his experience will have a very positive influence.

"Hopefully, they can have a positive impact on and off the field."

“geofflane nice to hear the likes of you , patrick and dorset fox reminiscing about city well before i started following them in 1968 . but although we were a division one (old)side when we beat firstly aston - villa 6-1 and THEN man city 8-4 we seemed to be a bit of a home side because we only won 3 away games all season and our defeats included 1-5 v aston villa, 3-7 v burnley ,0-4 chelsea 0-4 v man utd ,1-5 v blackpool 1-5 v wolves 3-5 v newcastle 1-4 v preston ad 2-6 v WBA . so either you didnt go to many away games or you are wearing the old rose tinted specs . and lets be honest geofflane we were not THAT good cus we only stayed up by a point”

“Geofflane my reply seems lost, I wrote " saw the 8-4 match I think Walsh got 4, I seem to remember it was Arsenal not Villa we put to the sword after they lost their goalie injured. Sorry if that is wrong as I now forget everything which happens after 10 minutes and before 40 years ago.”

saw the 8-4 game Jimmy Walsh got 4 I think. However I thought Arsenal were the team put to the sword as their goalie was injured and a field player went in I would stand corrected as the brain is definitely going where events longer than 10 minutes ago are concerned.”

“Sorry about the 'offside' '49 goal, 4939, I only started going to Filbert St. in 1950. One story about John Farrington: he once 'scored' a goal against Arsenal, disallowed for offside (wrongly. Big clubs still get all the decisions) when he'd been ten yards in his own half when the forward pass was made. Apart from the Martin O'Neill era, recently life's been a disappointment. We often flatter to deceive. IF our new owners stick with Nigel we will go up. NEXT SEASON. We're a long way short right now. And speaking of Derek Hogg, anyone else besides me there when we beat Man. City 8-4 and put six past Villa next home game. THAT'S why we reminisce. We were great back then.”

yes John Farrington- remember him well- a pigeon fancier almost as fast as his birds-
I think he is circa- 70-71? well done
I remembered Jackie ( below) sadly Jackie passed away - Andy mentioned his cousin Tommy Wright- but still not a really decent winger since perhaps' Ohh Tommy Wright-' that is a long time ago
its the same with full backs- lots years ago- Norman- Nish- Rodrigues- Rofe but cant think of a really good one perhaps Zagarakis and the Swedish fella ( forget his name) but Kyle Naughton was /is top class”

    over 30 years !

I stood behind the goal into which Stringfellow scored. We were mixed in with Liverpool fans and went out for the evening under their protection. There was a lot of trouble around town that evening and we were eventually escorted to my car before they went looking for City fans !”

    “Patrick
Ah! What memories, I too was at Hillsborough behind the goal for that semi-final against Liverpool. I also fondly remember watching Derick Hogg Matt Griffiths, Arthur Rowley and co, so you must be as old as me, but how long have you been an ex-pat?”
