The Leicester Mercury is looking to find the best pub in the city for families – and we need your help.

Each year, we hold an online poll of family-friendly pubs as part of the Best Bar None awards.

But for 2013, we are doing things a bit differently – we are looking for a family with some pub expertise who can help us pick a winner.

Following a public vote, the chosen family will visit the top three pubs and choose their favourite.

The Best Bar None awards are organised each year by Leicester City Council and Leicestershire Police.

Pubs, clubs and bars in the city centre which take the best care of their customers receive certificates and awards.

Council licensing manager Bobby Smiljanic said: "This year, we wanted to do more to make sure the winners are deserving.

"There's no better way to judge whether a pub is family-friendly than asking a family to visit and the pubs we've spoken to about it have been very positive."

Bobby will also inspect all the venues that apply for the family-friendly award.

She will be looking for features such as play areas, menus for youngsters and changing facilities for babies.

The first winner of the award was the Jungle Club, in Checketts Road, Belgrave.

Owner Bally Chauhan said: "It's a good idea to have a family judging. If a pub is going to be family-friendly, it should try hard to be exactly that.

"I'll definitely be applying."

The winner of the award will be presented with a trophy at the Best Bar None awards night in June.

BEST BAR NONE: How to get involved

A family will be chosen randomly from those that enter and the deadline for applying is February 28.

The three meals will be paid for by Best Bar None and the family will also get vouchers for more free meals at all the other venues that enter for the award.

If you think your family would do a good job, simply fill in the form below. Please scroll through the form and fill in all sections. (The information will not be used for any promotional purposes or passed onto third parties.)

“Why are we encouraging children into pubs, shouldn't be allowed in until 18, shame on you for promoting this award.”
