Beware of this charity scam
Congratulations to the Red Lion pub, at Huncote, for their splendid effort in raising £1,200 for the Derby, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA), a most worthy cause (Mercury, June 7).
Can I take this opportunity to post a word of warning? A company purporting to be collecting and supporting the DLRAA has been collecting in the Hinckley area.
They post a flyer through your door that looks very authentic, asking for goods and inviting you to the Air Ambulance Supporters Scheme.
They provide no collection bags and have a phone number that charges £1.50 per minute!
The DLRAA and the Warwickshire Air Ambulance have assured me that they have no connection with this company and it is a scam.
Also that they, the DLRAA always supply their own distinctive bags with their helicopter logo.
So, please be careful and make sure that your donations go only to the excellent air ambulance service.
Brian Simpson, Burbage.
