Big screen has been a turn-off
The aim for the TV screen in Humberstone Gate was to show the Olympics and other events, but the interest wasn't there to entice shoppers to stand and focus on the blot dominating the precinct.
A suggestion to relocate it to Town Hall Square (Mercury, September 17) is not ideal as it will stick out like a sore thumb, especially for those who prefer to meet for a chat or sit in peace for five minutes.
Your report (Leicester Mercury, July 17) mentioned to run and maintain this extravagant piece of equipment cost the city council £45,000 a year, later amended (September 17) to a colossal £105,000, a sum that could be assigned to more deserving causes.

“It had an atmosphere around live events it was an opportunity to have or experience something visual or different from the norm for a while. Its true people only watched it for a few minutes at a time but we are in 2012, the modern technical age.
We should be able to explore change or be open to innovation or new ideas that allowes us to reflect the times it's what separates contemporary places form the ordinary. On the latter what is the alternative. The Euro Market Stalls or the Billy Bates Fun Fair how depressing and dated.”
