South Wigston: A Flower festival of life – from Birth to Life's End – is being held at South Wigston Methodist Church, in Blaby Road, on Saturday June 20 from 10am to 4pm.

People will be able to follow the journey through life in flowers and other displays.

Church groups and individuals have been given a topic such as birth, marriage, retirement, schooldays and hobbies, which it is hoped will make an unconventional flower festival.

Refreshments, ploughman's lunches, cream teas along with cake and bric-a-brac stalls will be on offer.

Everyone is welcome and admission is free.

Wigston: At the recently held annual general meeting of Wigston Civic Society, members heard a lively and energetic presentation on the vision of the new chief executive of the borough council, Mark Hall.

Mr Hall listed the initiatives he had implemented with the support of councillors to improve communication and community safety, to encourage businesses to relocate into the borough and to enhance the environment by better waste collection, street cleaning and green spaces.

Society members were encouraged to hear about these initiatives and offered their support to Mr Hall.

The society's recently appointed chairman, Norman Fisher, summarised the work that had gone on in the year.

The committee was re-elected for a further year and members were reminded that meetings are held on the first Wednesday of the month at Age Concern in Wigston at 7.15pm.
