Bobsleigh driver Paula Walker backed to break into world’s top five
LEICESTER’S Paula Walker has been confirmed as Britain’s first-choice women’s bobsleigh driver for the upcoming season and she’s being backed to break into the world’s top five.
The 26-year-old underlined her potential on her Olympic debut in Vancouver in 2010, finishing 11th while teammate and world champion Nicola Minichiello crashed out.
Walker was steady on the World Cup circuit the following season and further demonstrated her talent by winning the World Junior Championship title at the end of it.
She was even better in the World Cup last year and recorded a best-ever finish of sixth in Calgary before placing seventh at the World Championships in Lake Placid.

Walker will partner either Gillian Cooke, Minichiello’s brakewoman when she won the world title in 2009, or Kelly Denyer and British performance director Gary Anderson is expecting big things.
He said: “Paula’s crew is an exciting prospect and if they produce a high level of performance I know they will be looking to make a step up and start putting pressure on the world’s top five.”
