Rendall Munroe's family have shown their support for his world title bid – by packing their bags and leaving him!

Girlfriend Annalisha and sons Tiela and Tierell have left Leicester's boxing binman home alone in Northfields to prepare for the biggest fight of his career in Nottingham later this month.

Munroe and Simone Maludrottu clash in a European super-bantamweight title fight on Friday, November 20 that promoter Frank Maloney hopes will also be an eliminator for the WBC world title.

Munroe's family have moved into Annalisha's mother's house, and that is helping him stay focused on the fight that could make or break his hopes of claiming world honours.

"Everyone says boxing is a lonely sport – and it feels like it at the moment," said the 29-year-old Commonwealth and European champion.

"But it shows my family are supporting me all the way. They know I need my rest before a big fight and this is my biggest fight yet.

"It's tough for all of us, but it's what I have to do to give myself the best possible chance of winning this fight. My family know I am doing it for them."

Munroe gained further inspiration this week from a meeting with his boxing hero.

He sat on the top table when Mike Tyson, the youngest world heavyweight champion in history, visited Derby.

"People used to watch me when I was an amateur and say, 'Who's this crazy guy throwing bombs !" laughed Munroe, "and it was all because of Mike Tyson.

"I used to watch him when I was a kid and wanted to be just like him.

"I couldn't believe I got the chance to sit at the table with him. It was unbelievable and another reward for all the hard work that I've put into boxing over the years."

Tickets for Munroe's fight are available by telephoning 0787 1946671, 07525 469421 and 0116 2223680.
