A music festival to celebrate the Bowstring Bridge and Pump and Tap will take place on Saturday 14.

Many of the acts playing on the night will be bands whose music careers started off with live performances at the pub, or musicians who regularly drink there.

Organisers are hoping the event, Bridgestock, could be a celebration that the bridge has been saved.

They are waiting to hear this week the results of an appeal against a Government decision not to give the bridge protected status.

Festival organiser Sue Barton, from Leicester’s West End, said: “It will be a celebration of the life of the pub and the history of the bridge. But we are hoping it could be a celebration that the bridge is saved, if the appeal is a success.

“It is something for the community. Local people have been almost unanimous in favour of keeping the bridge and the pub.”

The pub used to host live music every night and many of the people performing on Saturday used to play at these events.

Bands and musicians appearing include Echolocation, Heartland Roots, Ken Wilson, Tim Filor and Bob Dilling.

The event runs from 7pm until late. Entry is free.

“New acts have been added to the line-up announced above. The full list of performers is Echolocation, Heartland Roots Band, Los Cyclones, Last Edition, Liberty Cats on the main stage and on the acoustic stage Tim Filor, Ken Wilson and Bob Dilling.

This is going to be a fun night to celebrate the Pump and Tap and Bowstring Bridge, our wonderful West End community and the fantastic campaign to save the bridge. Everyone involved has been overwhelmed the massive support for both the pub and the campaign for the bridge.”
