A house builder has axed 14 jobs after the completion of work at a number of sites.

William Davis, of Loughborough, said it hoped to refill the posts later in the year after the start of new projects.

Last month, the company revealed that pre-tax profit rose by 79 per cent, to £1.04 million, in the year to May 31.

The results also showed that turnover had risen by a fifth to £81.05 million over the same period.

Managing director Guy Higgins said the company was set to better those figures during this financial year, based on the performance it had seen in the past six months.

In December, the firm cut 24 of the 95 jobs at the company's Forest Road headquarters, mostly through a combination of early retirement and voluntary redundancies.

There were nine compulsory redundancies.

Speaking about the latest job cuts, a spokeswoman said: "Due to a short-term reduction in workload, William Davis can confirm that 14 operatives have been offered voluntary redundancy.

"However, the company has a number of new sites in the pipeline for later in the year when it is hoped to increase the workforce once again."
