A man who broke into a house and ransacked a bedroom in search of jewellery has been jailed for 40 months.

James McCorkindale (20), of Robert Hall Street, Stocking Farm, Leicester, pleaded guilty at Leicester Crown Court to burgling a house in Abbey Park Road in the city on December 9 last year and stealing jewellery, a purse and its contents.

Prosecutor Alan Murphy said McCorkindale threw a brick through a back window to reach keys so he could open a door and enter the house.

"A bedroom door, which was also locked, was forced open and an untidy search, with drawers pulled out and contents left all over the bed, was made," said Mr Murphy.

"Two jewellery boxes containing a substantial amount of Asian jewellery and costume jewellery were taken."

The value of the stolen property was £2,719.

Blood found on wallpaper led to McCorkindale being identified and arrested on December 19, when he told police he sold the jewellery for £60 to pay off loans.
