Burst pipe causes flooding in Grasmere Street and Mill Lane in Leicester near De Montfort University

Pedestrians and cyclists had to dodge an enormous pool of water after a water pipe burst near De Montfort University's campus.

The burst underground pipe, in Grasmere Street, forced the pavement to burst open, and saw water pouring into nearby Mill Lane.

A spokeswoman from Severn Trent said members of the public reported the leak to the company on Sunday and repairs began today.

She said: "We would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding while we repair the burst water pipe.

"It did not affect the water supply to customers in the area."

The spokeswoman said that further repairs were due to be completed tomorrow. She added: "Both the footpath and road will be fully reinstated by the end of tomorrow."
