Households are being urged to consider composting their garden waste instead of lighting a bonfire this autumn.

The Leicestershire Waste Partnership, which is made up of the county, district and borough councils, is asking people to think about home composting as an alternative.

Chairman Guy Jackson said: "Composting is an inexpensive, natural way of transforming your prunings, spent bedding plants and grass cuttings into a valuable rich food for your garden, while reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill."

To encourage residents to compost, the partnership has teamed up with the Get Composing website to offer to offer reduced price compost bins.

“Pile rubbish in a nice safe fire pit-ignite-allow to burn down-spread ashes on garden the next day, perfect for growing and immediate!”

“Just checked the web site and this should be classified as an advertisement for a commercial company as they are clearly selling products for a profit.

Quote from the site http://tinyurl.com/9enysfr "the UK's leading supplier of recycling and water conservation products."”
