Cardiff striker Rudy Gestede nodded home a dramatic late equaliser to earn the npower Championship leaders a point from a 1-1 draw against Leicester.

Michael Keane's second-half header looked to have sentenced Cardiff to their second defeat in three home games.

But two minutes into time added-on substitute Gestede converted Andrew Taylor's cross to increase their lead over Hull at the top of the table to four points.

Cardiff came into the match looking to get back to winning ways after a recent wobble but both sides had chances in an end-to-end opening.

After Chris Wood forced a save out of home goalkeeper David Marshall in the ninth minute, City defender Matthew Connolly was at his best with a double block to deny Lloyd Dyer and David Nugent.

Two minutes later Cardiff midfielder Peter Whittingham swung in a low free-kick which was comfortable for former Bluebird Kasper Schmeichel as the home side looked to avoid just their third home defeat of the season.

Ben Nugent, retaining his place in the home side after an injury to Ben Turner, was next to threaten the Dane but his headed flick was plucked from the sky in the six-yard box.

Nugent's central defensive partner Mark Hudson suffered an injury scare shortly afterwards but following his return to the pitch he pulled off a fantastic recovery tackle to deny Wood as the New Zealand international ran through on Marshall's goal.

Dyer and Wood continued to threaten on the break for the Foxes, who had taken just one point from a possible nine prior to kick-off, and the latter threatened just before the break but the winger's effort was comfortable for Marshall.

Cardiff manager Malky Mackay rang the changes at half-time with Hudson, who had struggled on with his injury, and winger Craig Noone replaced by Kevin McNaughton and Craig Bellamy, who scored the winner when the sides met back in December.

The Scottish defender was involved almost straight away as his tackle denied Wood from close range.

Fraizer Campbell was then inches away from the game's opening goal when he failed to connect with a low ball into the box.

Wood continued to be the away side's main threat and he was denied when clear through on the hour mark by Marshall. The keeper pulled off a crucial save to tip the former West Brom man's effort around the post in arguably the best chance of the game to that point.

At the other end Aron Gunnarsson clipped the crossbar with a cross that almost found a way past Schmeichel as both sides continued to search for what would be a vital three points.

The woodwork would be rattled by the Foxes shortly after when Keane's header from Danny Drinkwater's corner hit the post. But the ball was eventually swung back in by Sean St Ledger and the Manchester United loanee made no mistake at the second attempt to head home from six yards out to delight the 976 travelling fans.

Cardiff introduced Gestede for Craig Conway in an attempt to force an equaliser and he nodded over a Whittingham cross with six minutes to go.

But the Frenchman made no mistake deep into added time to secure their second consecutive 1-1 draw.

“Thanks I had no idea that you were there On our own incident for your interest ,a baby faced ref felt we were late coming out for the second half of a game. The ref broke soccer taboos, walking into our team dressing to remind Leicester that time was up and got an angry reaction from Pearson, who felt the ref had interrupted his team talk.”

The game was against man city !
I know from speaking with some players that the incident in question upset some players but they said it was no direct influence on results ...
I sort of understand what phil brown was trying to prove that Boxing Day but it was a bad decision 2 make ! We had travelled on a cold day and spent a lot doing so & I think he felt the players let us down ? If I'm honest the results after that was more about premiership teams working us out !”

    “Hello Hulldaz

Enough managerial moral talk, but I have a request. As you are a Hull fan l would love to hear your views on you former coach Phil Brown and his famous half time, team dressing down on the pitch,in front of the home Man United fans that time. Hull were going well in the Premiership, but after the stunt, they said Brown lost the dressing room confidence, Hull only winning one more game to just stay up.

However I'm not saying it's any worse than Pearson's chastisement of a rookie ref who walked into our changing room last season, but maybe , lose canons can be crossed - referenced into a joint club agenda after all.”

“Well if we go up and I say if ?
Steve Bruce had over 10 years in the premier league and I would have all confidence in him keeping Hull City up ...
I stand corrected on the point of you all wanted NP back lol
It can't be all doom and gloom at LCFC can it ?”

“Sorry HullDaz to have to correct you..but NOT everyone wanted him back...
I called for someone with more experience on here (& mentioned your current manager) but got yelled at. Well, look what's happening now! Who's in the driving seat?....& with regards to next season, who would you put your money on out of Malky McKay & Steve Bruce to keep their newly promoted sides in the premiership? Said all along, it's not just a matter of getting up, it's all about STAYING UP also!”

    “Squirt !
    You wanted him back !
Lets face it LCFC made some bad choices on managers but you wanted NP back and now you have him ! You want what every other team wants in this league ...
He will get you up but for gods sake give him time ! He is building you a very good young team but let him take you up with an excellent team ! This will happen if you give him time ..
We are lucky as in Steve Bruce we have a proven manager who can get us up !”

    “Cheers ash !
Nothing better than football talk !
No other league is like the championship ...it's so unpredictable anyone can lose against opposition that you would think your team would take the points !
It's not going 2 be easy for teams 2 get out of this division in the coming seasons as clubs budgets will be under scrutiny ...
NP is a good manager but I think Hull City's board pulled off the best signing in Steve Bruce !”

“Hulldaz, like your posts mate, Steve Bruce stated that you won ugly against Burnley, that is the way in this division, for some to say how poor the standard of football is in the championship as pickleman said is a insult to his own intelligence, it is arguably the most competitive league in the world football.”
