I feel I have to write a few words in support of Elizabeth Allison and her commitment to all animal welfare issues, and, in particular, attempts to reveal the true facts relating to factory farming in the UK.

In all the letters written by Elizabeth, I have found them to be factually accurate, simply expressing her own opinion on vegetarianism, in no way attempting to forceably manipulate the meat-eating majority (as so often implied by many biased correspondents) and always writing from feelings based on compassion for all animal suffering.

I wonder, as Elizabeth so rightly states, how many of us would consume meat and its by-products, if we were allowed to see factory farms and abattoirs. I always think, if the "boot were on the other foot" how would we feel either locked in a cage for our entire life, being able to experience feelings of pain and emotions, only to be executed.

We were given dominion over animals to protect and defend them, not to abuse them.

Please, Elizabeth, carry on writing your letters to Mailbox, I admire you tremendously.

It has been said: "A nation can be judged on how it treats its animals" – I wonder how we will be judged on how we treat ours.

Ella Meah, Countesthorpe.

“I don't know what you mean Jon?

I was reading another letter about Ipads today and it would seem that if you eat more vegetables (ie only vegetables) you would be able to operate it more effectively.”

“What are Elizabeth and Ella's views on halal slaughter? We hear plenty of talk regarding animal welfare but why does no one else question this form of slaughter? To me it is barbaric and I don't believe that because it is a "religious" requirement it should be free from debate or protest.”

    “David / Kulgan
I for one welcome Elizabeth letters, it brightens my day to see how she can work "everyone needs to be a vegetarian" into every subject whatever it is.”

“Ms Allison is not preaching to the coverted. She continues to preach as is her right but the same arguments, repeated endlessly do not inspire!”

“So, Ms.Allison, has one supporter. Amazingly anyone with a differing view is labelled "biased". Not at all!!

The FACT is that we are continually confronted with her veggie standpoint being rammed down our throats which don't always stop at animal welfare issues.

Man, indeed woman, has eaten meat since the beginning of time. Cattle, pigs, sheep and many more creatures have been slaughtered to meet this demand.

Since the vast majority of folk eat and enjoy meat doesn't mean to say we agree with the way in some animals are farmed!!”
