Charlotte musicians 'gutted' at plans for flats on site of Leicester venue
Musicians who performed at the reopening of the Charlotte music venue say they would be "gutted" if proposals to turn it into flats are given the go-ahead.
As reported in the Leicester Mercury yesterday, developers who own the iconic Oxford Street venue have submitted a planning application to convert the building into 11 flats.
It reopened less than a month ago after closing due to cash problems.
The Heroes played with Jersey Budd at the opening weekend. Guitarist Alex Van Roose said: "If it does go ahead then we'll be gutted. It'll be Leicester losing another music venue again."
Under the proposals by owners Deckchair Ltd, the bar area would be retained. The company declined to comment.

“It's time someone kerbed the activities of all these developers. They are becoming like parasites. LEAVE LEICESTER ALONE !”

“I do think it'd be a real shame for this to happen, but with the potential revenue available from student flats I fear it is almost inevitable.
I'd like to apologise for any offence caused by my post yesterday. I certainly hadn't intended to offend, and I'm definitely not racist. I was only trying to point out that Leicester's diverse culture (and by Asian I was referring to a whole continent) means we attract lots of students from overseas, which has had an impact on the success of the two Universities in the city. By no means did I say this, or our culture, is a bad thing. But if I caused offence by poor wording I do apologise.”
