Check that cold callers are legitimate, residents urged
People are being warned to check the credentials of cold callers after complaints about salesmen falsely claiming to be doing council work.
Charnwood Borough Council has received a number of calls from concerned residents who received visits or telephone calls from the false salesmen.
They said the bogus callers were urging residents to sign up for insulation schemes, falsely claiming that the work was endorsed by the council.
Charnwood's cabinet member for housing, Councillor Jane Hunt, said: "We want to urge residents to be on their guard if they receive such calls. The only insulation work we have carried out has been through Charnwood Neighbourhood Housing or with E.ON in the Shelthorpe area of Loughborough, but that scheme has now ended.
