Church Hill Road flooded for 3 weeks
Church Hill Road, Thurmaston has been flooded under the railway bridge for almost 3 consecutive weeks. This means that local residents have a 2 mile detour to circumvent the water. It also means that pupils from 3 primary schools and Roundhill College also have the same problem. Flooding under this bridge has been a problem for a number of years with vehicles regularly getting stuck under the bridge and it is high time that Charnwood Council did something permanent to alleviate the problem.

“My husband drove through this flood on Friday not realising how deep it was. There were no 'road closed' signs at this time. His car stopped working and he had to be towed home. It is still off the road and is going to be very costly to get sorted. Not happy!”

“I've lived in Thurmaston all of my 43 years - its always been like this! I'm sure it wouldn't harm to erect a scaffold ramp through the middle for pedestrians for times like this when it is clearly going to be flooded for weeks.
Useless. Come on P Harvey do something about it!”

“Well according to this: http://tinyurl.com/cfpsa8s it should be sorted in a week. Let's hope so.”

“It's not been "overlooked" but nothing has happened for 30 years!! Seems to me it's gone further back than the back burner!!”

“The flooding of this bridge has been happening for many years. It regularly flooded when I walked my 2 children to Churchill school (the youngest of mine is now 30 years old)
I don't think it has been overlooked at all, I think the problem has been put on the back burner of the Council's 'to do list' because it's Thurmaston and not Syston!
A few years back the flooding problem was addressed when 2 new drains were put in; one at each end of the bridge. This did nothing to cure the problem because the road under the bridge dips down in the middle, and is a lot lower than the 2 new drains, rendering them useless.
Rumour has it that the Highways Dept have been to inspect the bridge, and are apportioning blame for the blockage on the small brook which runs near the area. Apparently it brings lots of debris down to the drains, and will be a very 'big job' (i.e. costly) to put right.
As I said at the top, we're Thurmaston, and pay one of the highest Council taxes, not Syston, who seem to get everything..... so I'm not holding my breath for any action!”

“I think you'll find it a matter for the County Council's Highways Department. There obviously is a problem which has so far been overlooked by them.”
