Church festival proves a glittering success

Birstall: Golden Fanfare, the Methodist Church's Christmas festival, was a great success, making £6,000 over two days.

Christmas trees and flower arrangements in glittering gold decorated the church.

Christmas scenes were also displayed – including one by the ladies of the Monday Group depicting "The Star of Bethlehem".

Visitors also enjoyed a market and table-top sales.

Peckleton: A classic cabaret concert will take place in the village hall on Wednesday, December 30, at 8pm. It will star Yvonne Bloor (guitar), John Watts (actor and baritone) and Eleanor Graff-Baker (violin and soprano).

The evening will also offer coffee and Sachertorte.

A limited number of tickets are available at £13 (including refreshments). Please ring 07846 626 316 now to avoid disappointment.

Greetham: Carol singing will take place on the evenings of December 21, 22 and 23. Singers will meet at The Walnuts, 69 Main Street at 6pm. Further details from Clare or Peter Hitchcox on 01572 812585. In aid of the Polish orphanage.

Mountsorrel: Townswomen's Guild members celebrated the festive season with a visit from Brian Lord, a member of the Leicester Magic Circle.

The Guild meets each month at The Parish Rooms, Mountsorrel, on the first Thursday of the month at 7.30pm.

Greetham: Vicky and Sue would like to say a big thank-you to all who supported the Christmas craft fair in November. The sum of £531.73 was raised, which will be shared by the community centre and the church.

Greetham: There will be a service in St Mary's Church, in Greetham, on Thursday, December 24, at 11.30pm.

Kegworth: There will be service of nine lessons and carols at Kegworth Parish Church on Sunday, December 20, at 6.15pm.

Osgathorpe: There will be a carol service at Osgathorpe Parish Church on Sunday, December 20, at 3pm.
