City council gritters will be out again tonight to get main roads ready for tomorrow morning's rush hour.

The council said it will also be treating secondary routes in the city, the park and ride site at Meynells Gorse and some footpaths, as the temperatures are due to dip below freezing.

A spokeswoman said staff were re-filling Leicester's 300 grit bins to ensure that people can treat pavements and streets in their neighbourhood.

Icy conditions in side streets have affected bin collections today, with homes missed out receiving their next collection next Tuesday.

The council said refuse collection crews would attempt their regular Wednesday collections tomorrow so people are urged to put their bins and bags out as normal.

Any households missed will have their waste collected next Wednesday, January 30.

The council said all planned bulk collections have been postponed and anyone expecting one tomorrow would have it re-arranged for January 30.

The wintry weather has also affected some council sports facilities.

The golf courses at Humberstone Heights and Western Park remain closed, as do the pitches at St Margaret's Pastures and Aylestone recreation ground.

“I would say the info about waste collection being postponed is news or is it only news for you if it affects you”
